Westview on the James' mission is to offer a “Place Apart” for Christian hospitality and learning that helps people of all ages affirm and grow their Faith as they experience the wonder of God’s Creation. The Camp Director shall have the responsibility of overseeing the total camp and retreat operations, and adhere to all policies set by the Board of Directors. The Director shall establish a quality environment of Christian hospitality and learning consistent with the mission statement, endeavoring to create a loving, cooperative staff team focused on ministry. The Director will be responsible for all aspects of staff management, camper/parent relations, program development/management, camp risk management, ACA accreditation, budget oversight and recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training and preparing full time and seasonal staff for camp and retreat responsibilities. This is a year-round, salaried position with benefits. The Camp Director will also be required to live on‐site (housing provided). Applicants must be at least 25 years old and have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in a related field) and/or appropriate professional certification and at least two (2) prior years of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp. Applicants must be familiar with the core areas of accepted camp management practices and have attended a professional development workshop, institute, seminar, or course, within the past three years to further that knowledge. Applicants must have had direct responsibility (as an adult) for continuous leadership of at least one organized group for a minimum of two (2) years. PROGRAM DIRECTOR - BRETHEN WOODS CAMP & RETREAT CENTER
Brethren Woods Camp & Retreat Center (www.brethrenwoods.org) is a year round Christian camp and retreat center owned and operated by the Shenandoah District Church of the Brethren located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Brethren Woods is seeking a Program Director to plan and implement a vigorous year-round program including summer camp, retreats, outdoor education, the challenge course and outdoor adventure. Areas of responsibility include the general operation of camp, program initiatives, publicity and promotion, the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of personnel, and maintaining relationships with individuals, congregations, and professional associations.
Preference will be given to persons who are supportive of Church of the Brethren values and beliefs, have a college degree, experience in a camping/outdoor education related field, and skill or interest in low and high challenge course management. Candidate should also possess measurable administrative, organizational, relational, and communication skills.
